My parents cannot stress that saving is the key to best managing money. My dad says to put aside 5-10% of your paycheck into a savings account or retirement account. He says that you never know when you might be laid off or some illness comes over you. My mom says to be wary of expensive purchases such as nice cars or nice homes. They said that it is not bad to buy an expensive car or nice home, but not at the expense of other important necessities.
They also said to be careful in the purchases I make. Even simple purchases such as clothes can leave me with no money. Also, my parents say that always pay in cash if you can. Only use credit cards for when you have no cash, online purchases, or big purchases. They believe that simple purchases such as grocery or food should never be charged onto a credit card. My dad also stressed that no matter how thin your paycheck may get, always give back 10% for tithe.
